Composition by Holy Trinity organist to debut on BBC Radio 3

We are proud that a composition by one of Holy Trinity’s organists, George Richford, will debut in an episode of BBC Radio 3’s Choral Evensong this week.

The new work is titled: Magnificat on Antiphons for the Feast of the Visitation and is scored for SSAABar, organ and ‘cello.

It was commissioned by Rupert Gough and is performed by Royal Holloway Chapel Choir and BBC Musician of the Year, Maxim Calver.

George says:

“Do tune in if you can. There is lots of beauty in it as well as some drama (and en chamade trumpets) in the middle. The choir is on, usual, great form and the ‘cellist is fabulous.”

You can listen to BBC Radio 3:

  • on the Radio at 90.2–92.6 FM

  • on your computer or tablet by visiting the Radio 3 webpage

  • on your mobile phone by downloading the BBC Sounds app

  • on your smart speaker by asking it to “Play BBC Radio 3”.

The episode of Choral Evensong will air on Wednesday 11 December at 3pm.

If you miss it, you’ll be able to catch up on the Radio 3 Choral Evensong webpage.

We are very lucky to have George Richford as one of the organists at our Sunday morning service. As well as being an organist, George is a composer, producer, director and professor of music.

Four ‘Brutalist’ Carols recorded at Holy Trinity

We were also delighted to host George and choral performers at Holy Trinity last month to record another of his new compositions, a set of Four ‘Brutalist’ Carols. You can the recordings of these carols, made at Holy Trinity, on George’s website at the link below.
